FAQ

Lacrosse questions Fort Wayne parents ask

Straight answers on gear, ages, seasons, costs and getting signed up.

+ Who runs Fort Wayne Lacrosse?

The site is built and maintained by the coaches at Hoosier Elite Lacrosse. It is not a team or a program you sign up for — it is here to help local families understand the sport and find a place to play.

+ Are there other lacrosse programs in Fort Wayne?

Yes. The area has school teams, town youth programs and other organizations running lacrosse. This site does not try to rank them.

+ What equipment does a beginner need?

Boys need a stick, helmet, gloves, arm pads, shoulder pads, a mouthguard and cleats. Girls' field lacrosse needs a stick, goggles, a mouthguard and cleats. Many programs loan gear for a first season, so ask before buying anything.

+ What age should a player start?

Kids can start as early as kindergarten, but plenty of northeast Indiana players pick it up in middle school or as high school freshmen. Programs group players by age and experience, so beginners are not thrown in with veterans.

+ When is the lacrosse season in Indiana?

The school season runs in the spring, roughly March through May. Summer and fall bring camps and travel tournaments, and winter is mostly indoor skill work.

+ How do private and small-group lessons work?

A private lesson is one player with a coach; a small group is usually two to four players at a similar level. The coach picks one or two priorities — stick skills, shooting, dodging, faceoffs or goalie work — and builds the hour around them.

+ Are beginners welcome?

Yes. Most local youth programs, camps and clinics take players who have never held a stick, and no prior experience is expected.

+ Does my child need to play travel lacrosse?

No. Travel play suits athletes who want more games and tougher competition, but the school season plus the occasional clinic is plenty for most players, especially in the first couple of years.

+ How much does lacrosse cost?

It depends on the program, the length of the season and whether gear is included. School and youth programs publish their own fees at registration.

+ How do we sign up?

If your school or town has a program, start there — the athletic office or the club's registration page is the fastest route. For lessons, clinics and camps run by Hoosier Elite, current dates and sign-up are at hoosierelitelax.com.
